Returning from a year in Europe, Kelowna seemed like a hole in the earth with none of the charms of an international lifestyle I once knew. I dreamed of creating a house full of fun and friendship that would unite strangers, just like the ones I had lived in abroad.

My first random room mate, brought to the house by one of the many classified adds, had already picked out his room before I legally owned the house. Our second bedroom rented the following day. Bates motel – Occupancy 3

Man, five people in the first house you own, minutes from downtown and with no parental supervision or hostel rules can turn into the party of your life in a hurry…and then you get sick of cleaning up! After a winter and two summers of ridiculous parties (mud wrestling especially), pot-lucks, strange room mates, and horrible cleanliness, a smarter man would decide he was done with this lifestyle. Due to some choice timing and an amazing real estate market, I was able to afford to build the rest of the house I always wanted. Although it was not easy to get this little house project past the Arse hole city planners of Kelowna , I got the permit to build. (police visits at the time were numbering 22 after the first two summers).

My dream is now complete, well almost…I don't think I'll ever really be done! I have found that despite a few expected highs and lows, that I have always managed to turn total strangers into some of my best friends. I live with the best group of people I could have ever imagined, in a town I felt so alone in just years before. So many group meals ate, beers drank and fatties smoked….many people have met here, many will remain friends, brothers or sisters for life.
